Hey! I’m Cool Now!

One of my favorite podcasts to listen to is The Breakdown by Chris Hayes over at The Nation. (Incidentally, does anyone know what the style requirements are for podcast names? Italics, quotes, what?)

The concept of the podcast is that they lean more towards analysis than commentary. People can send in questions about how something-or-other works in politics or government, and each week Chris picks one question to answer. Obviously, the approach is one sympathetic to left-leaning priorities, but they tend to focus on the “how it works” aspects over the “what you should think about it” aspects, which is a welcome change from a lot of the Washington journalism information flow.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I fired off a question about attempts to establish universal health coverage at the state level, then promptly forgot all about it. Then I finally got around to refreshing my podcast subscriptions in iTunes today, and lo and behold my question got answered! And answered quite well, by health wonk blogging guru Ezra Klein, I might add. Unfortunately, Chris also mispronounced my last name — the “o” in “Spross” is a short vowel, not a long one — but then, so do most people. Ah well.

You can check out my short encounter with podcast notoriety here, and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes here.
