He would have been 70.

John Lennon, that is. Tomorrow, October 9th. I’ve never considered myself a “Beatle-maniac” I went through different periods of appreciation for different albums. I listened to Abbey Road on a loop when I was 15. Let it Be was a big one my senior year of college.

But for me (and this is just me) my favorite John Lennon, post-Beatles, song is “Bring on the Lucie (Freeda Peeple)” off the Mind Games album. A political song about Vietnam, involvement and the presence of the devil. It’s used marvelously in the end credits of Children of Men, where I first became enamored. There are going to be many, many John Lennon tributes this weekend, this is ours.
