In plain English, that means that no matter how you measure it, Jay Leno is performing worse as the host of “The Tonight Show” than Conan O’Brien did. And Leno doesn’t even have the disadvantage of having Leno as a lead-in. Although I wouldn’t put that idea past NBC.
An article here goes over The Tonight Show ratings since Jay Leno returned as host four months ago. This past week the ratings slipped below Letterman’s The Late Show. In fairness this is the summer and late night shows typically don’t have the strong prime-time lead ins as the fall or spring, and we’re really talking the difference between a few hundred thousand viewers.
