There are few elected officials I have as much respect for as Russ Feingold (D-WI). Today he released a statement about new legislation he is introducing that would require:
…the president to develop a flexible timetable to draw down U.S. troops from Afghanistan, in order to enhance our national security and reduce the burden on our armed forces and on taxpayers. The legislation also increases oversight by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) over work done by private contractors with records of waste, fraud and abuse in order to safeguard U.S. taxpayer dollars.
The legislation itself does not set a specific date for withdrawal, but it’s an important first step. The clip above shows that Feingold has never been in favor of a heavier occupation in Afghanistan.
Feingold is up for re-election this year. His web site here.
