James Horner / Hans Zimmer

One of these men will walk away with a golden statue next Sunday for Best Original Score. Horner has never been one of my favorites, but his best scores (Aliens, Field of Dreams, Glory, Braveheart) are undeniable. Zimmer has been much more influential in the past decade in the action / historical genre (Gladiator, Pirates II and III, The Dark Knight). Jeff and I are rooting for Zimmer mainly because we both loved his score for Sherlock Holmes and we found Horner’s work on Avatar to be pretty standard.

David Poland of Movie City News has been conducting many interviews over the past months with artists nominated for awards this year. Here’s his interview with Horner. And with Zimmer. All of his interviews are available here.
