Senator Al Smash

Recently elected Senator Al Franken doesn’t seem to make much headlines and barely gets notice for moments in the Senate, aside from that incident where he stopped Joe Lieberman from continuing on the Senate Floor back on December.

But today he came out swinging against the Comcast / NBC Uni merger in the hearing held by the Senate Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights. Naturally, the main juice of this story is the fact that Franken became famous as a writer/performer on Saturday Night Live, the venerable variety show on NBC. Franken’s questions were all positioned of the threat this merger has to independent producers who will be declined ownership of new shows.

This is the part where I am supposed to insert a Stuart Smalley reference, but how about I just give you the link to the story here, courtesy of The LA Times.
