Thune in 2012

The articles keep coming. This one from Politico. And the second paragraph lays it all out.

For those in the GOP who aren’t giddy about a second Mitt Romney run and aren’t sold on the viability of Tim Pawlenty, Thune represents a mainstream conservative alternative.

Note that phrase “mainstream conservative,” who do you think isn’t a “mainstream” alternative? That’s an easy one. The other interesting note the piece points out is that Thune, up for re-election this year, doesn’t have a serious opponent to challenge him essentially freeing up his schedule to check out the political landscape.

GOP strategist Mark McKinnon also puts it: “He’s unquestionably conservative but not in an ideological way — more in a Midwestern, rural, country, small-town way. So he’s acceptable to all factions.”

So, all you Conservatives who know that Sarah Palin: Part II will be a giant Cluster F for your party. This guy could be the answer to your prayers.
