Grab your Pitchforks

Every once in awhile a columnist will do some research and discover something very unsettling.

Steve Lopez has written such a column, and unfortunately it’s a stab in the heart to many liberal arguments that “Government is Good” while also pointing out that the word “fair” and the words “pay scale” do not correlate even in these times.

Lopez is a regular columnist for The Los Angeles Times, that film The Soloist from earlier this year was based on a piece he wrote. In his recent column he uncovers the pay scale for various employs at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The word infuriating barely covers it.  For example: Executive Secretary salaried at over $90,000.  Custodians makes $50,000. He makes the comparison to what similar positions pay at other City agencies, and it’s pretty nauseating.

All this while CA is undergoing massive budget cuts.
