Double-Digits

It’s true. The unemployment rate is now at 10.2%, the first time in the double-digits since 1983. 190,000 jobs lost this past month put us over. The Economic Policy Institute (EPI) has analysis here, they essentially call this a “wake up call” and encourage “more spending for job creation” from the government. EPI President Lawrence Mishel has his thoughts on the situation, and points out that the 10.2% doesn’t reflect underemployment, those who are only working part-time

It is just a number. We are losing less jobs per month than we were earlier this year, but we are deep in the woods.
