Don’t buy it

There will many articles in the upcoming weeks describing the results of VA and NJ Governor’s race as harbinger’s of President Obama’s popularity. If one or both of these states were to elect Republicans, both are currently governed by Dems, there will be a slew of analysis pointing out that this is the beginning of Obama’s fall, GOP will make big gains in 2012, he’s no longer popular…yada yada yada.

Two things: a) Don’t buy it and b) These two races have nothing to do with presidential popularity.

This Newsweek article is all about the VA Governor’s race, and it fails to mention one glaring fact that former VA Governor Mark Warner, now senator, was elected in November 2001, at the height of President Bush’s and the GOP’s popularity.
