President visits Aggie Country

President Obama will be at an event today with George H.W. Bush at Texas A&M University, home of President Bush’s own presidential library. Former Secretary of state James Baker will be there, as well as Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, a former president of the university.

On the one hand, it is a forum at an academic university featuring some of the most prominent living Americans discussing volunteerism. On the the other hand, it’s College Station. Thoughts and prayers.

Former President Bush very wisely posted a letter in today’s Houston Chronicle (text here) stressing this visit is not about politics.

Here’s a NY Times article about the campus pre-visit, including preparations for protests, costumes, signs, etc.
