Death Nail

In what ever health care reform we get this year (and I still think we’ll see something), there will be no public option.

The Senate Finance Committee today debated and voted down two different amendments today to add to the “Baucus Bill”. One from Sen. Jay Rockefeller and another from Sen. Chuck Schumer. The Bill will leave the Finance committee without a public plan, period. And when the debate hits the Senate floor, those amendments will likely get brought up again, but still likely to be voted down.

The New York Times story here.

My reaction: This is Bad. Health Care Reform = we need new options. A public option. And whether or not you think a public plan is “liberal”, hard to argue it’s not very popular with Americans. As these polls suggest.
