4th and Goal

It has been reported that a week from today President Obama is going to address a joint session of Congress in prime time, specifically about Health Care.

By no means should this be interpreted as a “Hail Mary Pass”, but this is the play for the President and Health Care Reform. If he doesn’t connect on this one, it could be the first big blow to his administration, not to mention the millions of citizens who are counting on some sort of reform to pass.

The NY Times (and lyrics from a Joe Esposito song) note, history repeats itself:

“It was 16 years ago this month that President Bill Clinton went before a joint session to introduce his health care initiative, the last time a president proposed to overhaul the system to expand coverage. Some Obama advisers, not eager of parallels between that failed effort and now Mr. Obama’s push, had argued for the president giving a televised speech from the Oval Office instead of the House chamber.”
