Bad Title, Bad Trailer

That’s how I’d describe Michael Moore’s new film Capitalism: A Love Story. Coming to theaters Oct. 2nd.

The footage here looks like a hodge-podge of other Michael Moore projects.  From confronting businessman (Roger & Me), confronting congressman (Fahrenheit 9/11) to showing clips of TV shows and movies to convey his point with a pop culture twist (ALL of his films). Then there’s the selection of the song “Paper Planes” by M.I.A. Huh?

  1. As a liberal who refuses to denounce Michael Moore’s movies for the sake of ‘bi-partisanship’, you’re absolutely correct. I’m guessing the material just isn’t as cinematic and they had to cut a trailer with what they had to work with.

  2. My guess is the choice of “Paper Planes” was a lyrical reference. “All I wanna do is take your money” a la the bailout as corporate welfare. But I couldn’t help noticing they cut the text to the gunshots in the song in exactly the same way as the Pineapple Express trailer.

At any rate, I thought “Sicko” was a stronger and more focused film for being less flashy, in comparison to Moore’s earlier work. Maybe this one will follow the same path.
